C-Approved
This course is for students who are either not ready for or not interested in thePre-calculus/Calculus pathway their senior year but still want to continue developing their mathematical knowledge and challenge their math skills while preparing for attendance at a CSU or UC. These students may be interested in a math-intensive major although this is a not a requirement for this course.
Quantitative Reasoning with Advanced Mathematical Topics
Students who typically enroll in this course:
- Are not ready to take AP level math/QR course.
- May have originally placed into pre-Calculus
- “Just got by” IM III or Intermediate Algebra II but wish to further develop their readiness for college-level math
- May not have planned on taking a senior year math course
Intended for seniors who place into:
- Level 4 “Exceeds Standard” on SBAC/CAASPP
- Level 3 “Standard Met” on SBAC/CAASPP
- Level 2 “Standard Nearly Met” on SBAC/CAASPP (students who place into Level 2 may participate in the course with a counselor/math teacher recommendation)
Pre-requisites:
- Integrated Math III or Intermediate Algebra II with a passing grade
Minimum Teacher Qualifications:
- Requires CSET I, II, and III or full math credential
QRAT fits the same qualifications as Precalculus, AP Stat, and Calculus

G-Approved
This course provides a pathway for students who may not be interested in pursuing a STEM and/or math- intensive major and would typically not take math their senior year. These students traditionally complete the 2-year math graduation requirement and often take three years to do so.Transition to Quantitative Reasoning

Intended for seniors who place into:
- Level 3 “Standard Met” on SBAC/CAASPP
- Level 2 “Standard Nearly Met” on SBAC/CAASPP

For over a decade, Sac States’ Center for College & Career Readiness has leveraged the expertise of 4-year institutions, feeder high school districts, community colleges, and county offices of education to serve the students we have traditionally given up on mathematically. These partnerships spurred the development of our courses.
Our innovative curricula are predicated on the idea that students’ negative disposition toward mathematics can change in an environment that fosters engagement and conceptual learning. Using a facilitative teaching approach, teachers reposition themselves from “sage on the stage” to “guide on the side” to create a more student-centered classroom. This allows teachers to learn along with their students, thereby shifting their mathematical understanding and pedagogical framework.
Using real-world tasks, simulation, and patterning, students work in groups to take on problems that require them to gather, analyze, and evaluate information. Building on prior knowledge, students collaborate to uncover the underlying structures of mathematics and connect these concepts using critical reasoning expressed through written and oral communication. With a focus on depth, not breadth, students’ curiosity is reignited and they leave more confident in their transition to college and career pathways.
